TB Vets to match Langley generosity in support of new “Body Booth”
When patients step inside the body booth at Langley Memorial Hospital (LMH) they face a window into their every breath.
The booth (technically, the plethysmography unit) helps respirologists gauge the size and function of the lungs, the force the patient needs to exert to breathe and how well oxygen moves to the bloodstream.
But the waitlist for some body booth tests can range from 18 months to two years, says Karen Steeves, Clinical Practice Leader in LMH’s Respiratory Therapy.
Now TB Vets, a BC-based charity and longtime partner of Langley Community Health & Hospital Foundation, is spearheading a $100,000 campaign for a second body booth to drastically cut patient wait times for this essential care. TB Vets will match every dollar from our donors up to $50,000 to reach that goal.
LMH respirologists see between 25 to 35 patients a week.
“Having this body booth here will give us the ability to double the amount of testing that we can do, which will help reduce our wait lists,” says Steeves.
