Q&A with Cathy Wiebe, Langley hospital’s new Executive Director
The new Langley Memorial Hospital and Langley Community Executive Director got her start in nursing in Edmonton. More work in Ottawa, Richmond and Surrey led her to graduate studies and leadership roles which culminated in her role as Executive Director for Peace Arch and Delta Hospitals and now Langley Memorial Hospital. She tells the Foundation about what she’s looking forward to.
Q: What has impressed you most about Langley Memorial Hospital?
“The teamwork and community culture. Staff support one another across all roles, and despite pressure in the emergency department, patients and families are met with kindness and professionalism.”
Q: What challenges and opportunities lie ahead?
“Workforce shortages, especially in emergency services, maternity care and medical imaging, are a challenge as Langley continues to grow. With support from Langley Community Health & Hospital Foundation, we are replacing mammography equipment, upgrading X-ray rooms and exploring an expansion of the ambulatory care unit to keep care close to home.”
Q: What message would you like to share with donors?
“Health care is an expensive business. Without the generosity of donors, essential equipment, renovations, expansions and programs that improve services across the community would not be possible. Donations help ensure high-quality care close to home.”
Q: Is there anything else you would like people to understand about health care today?
“Health care is constantly evolving. Change is part of the profession, and health care workers have learned to be adaptable and resilient. Every role contributes to patient care. Whether someone is a health care aide, a nurse, a physician or part of the housekeeping team, each person plays a leadership role in maintaining safe and compassionate care. At the heart of health care is the commitment to provide high-quality care for patients and support for their families. That purpose continues to guide everything we do.”
