$370,863 Raised at Giving Hearts Gala 2026
Donors at Langley Community Health & Hospital Foundation’s Giving Hearts Gala celebrated the second year of fundraising for the Guru Nanak Dev Endowment Fund on April 10, raising $370,863 for ongoing health care excellence at Langley Memorial Hospital.
More than 290 guests gathered at Cloverdale’s Mirage Banquet Hall to celebrate the generosity of the South Asian community and the spirit of the Vasaikhi season with a raffle, silent and live auctions and local entertainers.
Yasmin Gandham, a broadcast reporter for CTV News, led the evening as the Master of Ceremonies, with special guests Senator Baltej Dhillon and Dr. Abeer Syal speaking to the importance of community philanthropy and the impact donations make on local health care. Guests were treated to a lively performance from violinist Lordnation while Dhol drummer Rohit Dholi of Abbotsford Dhol Academy energized the crowd.
The seventh annual gala marked the second year of fundraising for the Guru Nanak Dev Endowment Fund, a permanent, invested pool of resources to generate reliable annual income to meet urgent needs in equipment, program and services at Langley Memorial Hospital.
The Giving Hearts Gala Committee established the fund in 2025 with a five-year goal of raising $1 million for these priorities.
Inspired by the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the Guru Nanak Dev Endowment Fund honours the South Asian community’s tradition of philanthropy and is meant to inspire younger generations to carry that legacy forward through Seva, or selfless service and compassion for others.
On Friday evening, eight donors became the Endowment Fund’s most recent Founding Donors, each with gifts of $13,013. Gala guests also gave generously through individual donations and fundraising activities like the 50/50 raffle, which closed with a $5,300 jackpot.
They joined the 17 gala donors who each donated $13,013 at Giving Hearts Gala 2025, receiving a limited edition commemorative coin that marks their status as a Founding Donor of the Guru Nanak Dev Endowment Fund. The donors who stepped forward on April 10 have completed the call for 25 Founding Donors of the Endowment Fund.
“It was incredible to see so many donors step forward to support care in their community,” says Heather Scott, Executive Director of Langley Community Health & Hospital Foundation. “Each of them carries forward a legacy of compassion that will strengthen local health care for generations. The Guru Nanak Dev Endowment Fund beautifully reflects this spirit in action.”
Sonya Bath, Chair of the Giving Hearts Gala committee, says that as Langley’s population grows, so does the pressure on local health care. She says the Fund’s strong first year reflects how this community has responded, with donors stepping forward to help build more resilient health care for the future.
“What continues to inspire me is how instinctively people show up for one another in Langley,” she says. “Giving Hearts donors aren’t just responding to today’s needs. They’re helping to build the foundation for the health care our growing community will rely on tomorrow. During the season of Vaisakhi, that spirit of Seva feels especially resonant.”
Last year, gala guests raised $331,000. Since its inception in 2019, the Giving Hearts Gala donor community has raised more than $1.8 million to support the creation of LMH’s Martini Family Emergency Centre, the purchase of mobility aids for aging patients and bassinets for the specialized care of newborns, established a sanctuary of peace for hospital staff, patients and their families within the hospital setting, and in support of the Guru Nanak Dev Endowment Fund.
