Home, Health and Community is Part of Everyday Living at Aspire
From many suites at Aspire, senior residents can look out their window or step onto their balconies and see Langley Memorial Hospital just across the street.
“Aspire’s location offers close proximity to the hospital, which is especially valuable for many of our senior residents,” says Neale Harris, Aspire’s property manager with FirstService Residential. It may be a simple reassurance, but knowing care is close by gives them a sense of security and confidence.
Indeed, Aspire was designed around the concept of aging comfortably in place. The building offers a calm, accessible environment where seniors can live independently while staying connected to care and community. Shared amenity spaces support movie nights, dinners and informal gatherings.
“Aspire was built with community in mind,” Harris says. “Our spacious amenities room serves as a central gathering place for social events, dinners, movie nights and other activities that foster connection and belonging among residents.”
The project began with Langley Community Health & Hospital Foundation’s Board of Directors’ concern to address the growing need for senior housing in Langley. The Foundation owned an empty lot near the hospital and wanted to use it in a way that addressed housing needs while also supporting health care across the community. A best-use study concluded that a seniors-only market rental building, with a portion with a portion of units priced below market, could do both.
To ensure the project was managed responsibly, the Foundation created a limited partnership to oversee Aspire’s development, manage risk and protect its charitable status.
“Once fully tenanted and self-sustaining, the building’s profits will directly support the Foundation and its community health initiatives,” Neale Harris says.
The first residents moved in in the summer of 2023.
Aspire resident Bev Kenward moved into an Aspire one-bedroom in 2023 with Cooper, her English Springer Spaniel. She says she found this quiet haven after living for some time at the busier, noisier junction of Fraser Highway and 220th.
“I looked at Aspire and I though, ‘oh my gosh, this is to die for,’” recalls Bev, who lived in Vernon for decades before moving to Langley.
By spring 2024, more than 90 per cent of the building was occupied, with about 30 per cent of units priced below market. Aspire includes one-bedroom and one-bedroom-and-den suites designed to support aging in place, with wide hallways, practical storage and flexible living spaces. Each suite includes a balcony with many overlooking a quiet, treed garden created by the building’s L-shaped design.
For residents, Aspire is a place to live well, though it’s clear residents value the role the building plays beyond its walls, says Neale.
“Many tenants appreciate that their rent contributes to an important cause: supporting our local hospital.”
