Donor Support Improves Care for Urology Patients

Donor support in 2025/26 has improved care for patients facing bladder cancer and other urological conditions.

Every year, Dr. Jason Archambault, head of urology at LMH, and the surgical team perform hundreds of cystoscopies to examine the bladder and urethra for signs of conditions such as kidney stones, enlarged prostate and bladder cancer.

Equipped with high-resolution 4K imaging, the new video surgical system funded by donors in 2025 delivers brighter, sharper and higher-contrast views, helping urologists make more accurate diagnoses for patients undergoing bladder cancer screening.

Image quality is critical to detecting cancers early, as some cancerous tissue present as subtle colour changes within the bladder lining. The clearer the image, the easier it is to identify abnormalities and choose the most appropriate treatment.

Less visible but equally important, a new donor-funded catheter PACE cart keeps specialized catheters, irrigation supplies and insertion kits organized and immediately accessible to surgical teams, supporting efficient workflows and patient care.
