LMH Surgeons Recognized for Surgical Excellence
In 2025, Langley Memorial Hospital (LMH) earned global recognition for surgical excellence, ranking among just 10 hospitals in Canada and 76 worldwide to receive a Meritorious Award from the American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP).
The award recognizes hospitals that reach exceptional surgical outcomes and show a commitment to improving patient care. In 2024, ACS NSQIP evaluated 609 hospitals worldwide, using detailed patient data to measure performance and reductions in surgical complications. LMH received top honours in eight high-risk categories, including mortality, care around cardiac events, pneumonia, infections and renal failure.
Community donations have enabled greater access to modern technology, helping fund operating tables, imaging scopes, cardiac monitoring equipment and vital signs monitors used by surgical teams every day.
“Donor support plays a vital role in helping us invest in the equipment and technology we need to improve outcomes, reduce complications and provide safer care for every patient,” says Dr. Mitra Maharaj, Medical Site Director at Langley Memorial Hospital.
The Guru Nanak Dev Endowment Fund
To help sustain advancements in medical technology and care techniques, the Giving Hearts Gala Committee established the Guru Nanak Dev Endowment Fund in 2025. Inspired by the Sikh tradition of Seva, or selfless service, the Fund will provide ongoing support for the hospital’s greatest needs such as equipment, programs, staff education and capital priorities.
In 2025, donors and guests at the Giving Hearts Gala contributed more than $331,000 toward the Fund’s $1 million goal, creating a lasting source of support for local health care.
