Make double the impact: Help bring the Future of Mammography to Langley
This fall, the Langley Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is matching donations to Langley Community Health & Hospital Foundation, up to $500,000.
When Anna, a Langley resident and health care professional, felt a small mass in her breast, her doctor promptly referred her for a diagnostic mammogram.
While eager to plan the next steps on her health care journey, she had to travel to Abbotsford for the test. And as any parent knows, planning medical care outside your community while also caring for a five-year-old and working full time is no small task.
Today, years into remission, Anna knows how fortunate she was to receive a diagnosis in time to treat her breast cancer before it advanced - even though she had to travel to Abbotsford for it.
It’s with neighbours like Anna in mind that Langley Community Health & Hospital Foundation launched its $2.1-million Future of Mammography campaign to transform breast health services - part of the Foundation’s Future of Health Care Starts Here campaign to close a $25-million funding gap in Langley health care.
Bringing diagnostics and care close to home, the mammography campaign will replace Langley Memorial Hospital’s outdated mammography machine, and add a second unit. Both new machines will be equipped with state-of-the-art 3-D technology that provides clearer images with lower radiation doses.
The initiative will also help add three operating room tables for mastectomy and reconstruction surgery, purchase pharmacy equipment for medication support and supply doctors with a CT contrast injector to help them see tumours better.
And this fall, your support can have twice the impact.
Through the Langley Memorial Hospital Auxiliary $1-million matching campaign, every gift to the Foundation will be matched, up to $500,000 - your $50 gift becomes $100. Your $100 donation becomes $200.
For the first time, with the community’s support, women in Langley could access both screening and diagnostic mammography in one location, bringing faster answers and fewer delays.
Celebrate the Future of Mammography
On Oct. 29, the community is invited to celebrate the Future of Mammography at a reception presented by Barb & Phil Jackman and emceed by CTV’s Mi-Jung Lee.
Hosted at salishan Place by the River, the afternoon will feature great food, drinks and networking opportunities. You’ll hear inspiring stories from those impacted by breast cancer and the urgent need for new mammography equipment, and from Langley health care experts who’ll share what will be possible for screening, diagnosis and treatment once Langley Memorial Hospital is equipped with the right resources.
